how do you turn hemp into cloth?

a. RETTING

B. decorate

c. washing

d. combing

e. spinning

f. knitting or weaving

Retting

harvesting is done with a traditional combine harvester. After cutting, plants composed of two types of fibers-long outer fibers suitable for textiles and short inner fibers suitable for paper or industrial applications-are placed in the field for about 45 days to "ret". Dehydration is a natural process triggered by dew that falls on crops every morning. Once this process is completed (dried), the stems are collected and sent to the "de-decorating" machine.

decoration

a big word for a simple process. The plant is placed on a conveyor belt and passed through a machine that separates the two fiber types. The short fiber falls to the floor, where it is collected for other purposes, and the long textile fiber moves to the next step-washing.

washing

When separated from the plant for the first time, the long fiber is grass-like and needs further refinement. A natural glue called lignin can hold hundreds of thousands of individual fiber bundles, which are no wider than human hair, so they must be removed. The first step is to wash the fabric in warm water and enzymes-harmless bacteria will break down the glue that binds the fibers together.

combing

once these hemp fibers are separated, washed and processed, they will be sent through the carding machine. Carding fibers is a lot like combing your hair. The process smoothes and aligns the fibers to prepare for spinning.

spinning

then passes several strands of fibers immediately through a spinning machine and is wound together to produce a single length of yarn. The yarn is collected on a large spool that holds hundreds of meters (yards) of yarn. The yarn is then sent to a knitting factory. This produced the softest hemp yarn ever, maintaining excellent strength and flexibility, which shocked scientists and customers alike!

knitting or weaving

the final step is to weave or weave the yarn into a fabric. Then send the fabric to the clothing manufacturing studio to make all kinds

clothing ranges from t-shirts to jeans to handbags.
